Khaleesi Emilia Clark BLASTS Critics Who Call Game Of Thrones Sexist See Her Defense Of The Show’s ‘Depiction Of Women’!

Game Of Thrones has always been under fire for its treatment of women, especially after last season’s controversial rape scene.

But if there’s one person who’s tired of the critics saying the HBO fantasy hit is sexist, it’s the show’s most powerful character — who also happens to be a woman — Daenerys Targaryen.

The last time we saw the Mother of Dragons, she was surrounded by a swarm of Dothraki soldiers in the season five finale.

And even though Emilia Clarke says her character is “back to square one, feeling like a slave simply for being a woman” — the actress argues the show proves women can have many different forms of power, and still exude bravery and strength.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Clarke weighed in on the controversy surrounding GoT‘s treatment of women, saying:

“There’s so much controversy. Yet that’s what’s beautiful about Game of Thrones it’s depiction of women in so many different stages of development. There are women depicted as sexual tools, women who have zero rights, women who are queens but only to a man, and then there are women who are literally unstoppable and as powerful as you can possibly imagine. So it pains me to hear people taking Thrones out of context with anti-feminist spin because you can’t do that about this show. It shows the range that happens to women, and ultimately shows women are not only equal, but have a lot of strength.”

As for her on screen alter ego, Clarke says Khaleesi is “learning the last lesson she needs to learn” this season as she finds herself in the clutches of the Dothraki for the first time since season 2.

But if we learned anything from watching Dany grow as a ruler, it’s that she always manages find a way out of a sticky situation. Clarke added:

“She knows all too well that getting on the wrong side of the Dothraki is not what you want to be doing. But on the same breath, she’s kind of a Dothraki at heart because that’s where she learned her strength. Not just that she’s fireproof and gave birth to dragons, but her strength as a woman.”

With powerful ladies like Dany, Arya Stark, Queen Cersei, and Brienne of Tarth alone, we have to agree that the women of Westeros totally rule — especially since the dudes are getting picked off like flies! LOLz!

Do YOU agree with the actress’s remarks?
