New ‘Game Of Thrones’ Story Will Quietly Debut In A Fantasy Anthology

A new tale of Westeros is coming but not the one many fans have been waiting for.

An Amazon listing has been created for a fantasy anthology,The Book of Swords, edited by Gardner Dozois, slated to publish in October. The still-slight description of the book advertises [f]ifteen original tales celebrating fantasys golden age of sword and sorcery, and specifically promises a tale from George R.R. Martinset in the world of A Game of Thrones!

Westeros.org, a fansite for the series, posted an update on Jan. 26 noting that the anthology had apparently been underway since 2015. The books editor,Dozois, has frequently collaborated with Martin as a co-editor.

Sounds like a cool bonus an unexpected original story for A Song of Ice and Fire buffs. Just one problem: Readers are still waiting, some more patiently than others, for Martin to deliver the next volume in the Song of Ice and Fireseries, The Winds of Winter. Apparently, though, he took a bit of a break to contribute a story to The Book of Swords. The last published installment of the series,A Dance With Dragons, came out in 2011.

Martin comes by his tantalizing pace honestly; though the first three books in the series were published in the space of four years, five years passed before the fourth book appeared, and another six years beforeA Dance With Dragons. But Martin has also teased fans with occasional hints that the new book would soon be finished only to repeatedlyannounce delays on the books delivery. Earlier this month, he revealed that he thought the book would be out this year, adding, (But hey, I thought the same thing last year).

In the past, Martin and his fans have clashed over his seemingly interminable writing schedule. He has blamed distractions such as junkets, increased demands on his time due to his fame, and writers block for his slow pace. Accordingly, some readers have closely observedhis travel schedule and other commitments for evidence that hes being pulled away from writing their long-awaited book.

So whats with Martin contributing a story to an anthology instead of pouring 110 percent of his time and energy intoThe Winds of Winter? Everyone, stop asking him to do other things hes made it pretty clear hes not a great multitasker. No more invitations to Dubai, no more Jets training camp, no more cool anthologies or convention appearances. Let the poor guy buckle down and finish that book.

And in the meantime, at least we can all enjoy some freshGame of Thronescontent, thanks to this anthology. Now, to wait for October to come.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Actor Reveals He Almost Played A Different Role

With 30 years in the business, Conleth Hills career, well, Varys, but how much it changes may be surprising.

The actor told The Huffington Post that with the exception of Game of Thrones, he generally doesnt play the same character multiple times. He switches things up. In fact, Hill said that the only similarity between the mysterious eunuch he plays on the HBO show and the troubled author he portrays in his new thriller, A Patch of Fog, is that, you know, hes both of them. In addition to those roles, Hill is currently in rehearsals forWhos Afraid of Virginia Woolf? in the West End.

Like on Game of Thrones, Varys is just a busy guy.

Hills character on the HBO show has been known as the Master of Whisperers, so while chatting with the actor about his new projects, we asked about some real-life whispers, too. It may surprise some that Hill confirmed he already made a bid to sit on the Iron Throne as another character.

One time, I saw you dispelled that you were once a married fisherman before becoming an actor.

They took it from the Wikipedia entry, which I didnt do. I dont really go, apart from reading The Huffington Post, near the internet, but someone had filled in my Wikipedia with lots of mysterious details, which I have to say I found amusing.

There are other rumors, too.

Dont believe anything you read.

One says you almost didnt play your character, Sandy Duffy, in A Patch of Fog.

Thankfully, fortuitously, the guy who was gonna play him dropped out. I think before principal photography started, so I didnt have much time to prepare, but Im dealing with a great script, and everything I needed was on there.

Another rumor says you originally tried out for King Robert Baratheon on Game of Thrones.

It is true, to be honest, but I have to say that I came out of the meeting, which went all right, and looked who was in after me, saw who it was, and went, Well, hed be all right for it, and he was, and he got it. You know, thats showbiz.

(Robert Baratheon was portrayed on Game of Thrones by actor Mark Addy.)

So then you had to read for Varys, too?

I read for it, parts of the dungeon scene with Ned and the chest scene where he explains how he was made from sort of a slave to the security of Westeros, and I think once I had already accepted the part, they said, How do you feel about shaving your head?

How is it finally getting to keep your hair in A Patch of Fog?

Its seasonal. I cut it out and then it grows back. A bit colder this year because its a little bit later, filming well into the winter, but its just what I looked like before.

At the heart of your movie is this obsessed fan interacting with his idol, and there are some awkward selfies. Whats been the weirdest fan experience youve had so far?

Ive been very lucky. Most Game of Thrones fans are well-mannered and courteous. I have no trouble taking photos with people if they want it. I think the weirdest one was someone came running toward me with their hand in my crotch area, saying, I wanted to see if somethings really there.

What? Really? Thats pretty crazy.

They didnt make contact, so it was OK. Yeah, like Id be that method.

A Patch of Fog is on VOD and iTunes Jan.24.

‘American Horror Story’ Was Renewed For 2 More Seasons

If your idea of a good time is watching Lady Gaga play herself with a bad accent and/or listening to people murder each other creatively while you cover your eyes, youre in luck. was renewed for two more seasons, which is surprising to exactly no one because as fucked up as always winds up being, its also the shit. Plus, the ratings are through the roof every season so its not like it was in danger of getting cancelled.

ICYMI, everyone lost their shit last year when the shows creator, Ryan Murphy, dangled the possibility of a Murder House/Coven crossover season. Well, it turns out hes a fucking tease (and actors’ schedules are apparently hard to work around). There arent any plans for the crossover to happen in 2017, so we still have to wait to watch Jessica Lange and Connie Britton try to out-weird each other on the same screen again.

On the other hand, were still getting two new seasons of bizarre shit. Also, more shirtless Evan Peters. I guess we can deal.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Prequel Would Be ‘Foolish’ Not To Explore, Says HBO Exec

Were still years away from theeighth and final seasonofGame of Thrones but HBO is toying with ways to avoid having to say goodbye to Westeros.

According to Variety, at the Television Critics Association press tour on Saturday, HBO original programming president Casey Bloys revealed that while nothing is written in stone in terms of a potential Thrones prequel or spinoff, the network is exploring its options.

All I can say is that were exploring it. We dont have any scripts, were not even close to saying, Oh, lets do this, Bloys said. But its a big enough property that we would be foolish not to explore it. Its a really rich world. Wed be foolish not to look at it.

Indeed, there is plenty of material for the network to work with. In addition to George R.R. Martins Song of Ice and Fire series, the Thrones author has also written several prequel novellas, which take place nearly a century before the events of Ice and Fireand follow the adventures of two characters named Dunk and Egg.

While nothing is certain, it sounds like HBO plans on taking their time in developing a new Thrones-related project.

Well take some shots at it. Im not going to do it just to do it. It has to feel very special. I would rather have no sequel and leave it as-is then have something we rushed out, Bloys told Entertainment Weekly, adding that tackling a prequel seems more likely than a spinoff.

A prequel feels like it has less pressure on it [than a spinoff], Bloys said. [ Martins history of Westeros] gives you areas in which to say to a writer, If you were going to do this, then go flesh it out, and well see what comes back. But I dont feel any pressure that we have to have something.

Of course, HBO will have plenty of time to figure things out should they decide to move forward with a prequel Season 7 of Thrones isnt scheduled to air until summer 2017.

FX renews ‘American Horror Story’ for two more seasons

Your Favorite ‘Game Of Thrones’ Actor Might Be In ‘Avengers’

Tyrion Lannister just cant get away from those Starks.

Forget Robb, Bran, Catelyn and even Ned. (Oh gods, Ned … the North rememb no, wait, never mind. Forget him.)

Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage could now rub elbows with another Stark Robert Downey Jr.s Tony Stark, that is according to reports from Variety and Deadline.

Dinklage is said to be in talks to play a key role in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War movies.

The timeline seems to work out, too: Game of Thrones actorLiam Cunningham said at Sundays Golden Globes that filming for Season 7 goes through the end of February with filming for the next season picking up in September. Variety reports production for the new Avengers movies will take place in the summer, with both new films getting made back-to-back, so that would give Dinklage plenty of time to film for the role.

If the actor does join the cast, he should feel right at home. From his work on Game of Thrones, Dinklage is clearly comfortable with ensembles, and the upcoming Avengers movie is said to include dozens of different Marvel characters. Plus, hes already appeared in another superhero movie,X-Men: Days of Future Past (aka the best X-Men).

Avengers should be a piece of cake or a piece of shawarma, perhaps (since the Avengers love shawarma).

The actors potential role is still a mystery, as Marvel apparently didnt comment on the matter.

However, Infinity War directors The Russo brothers did already tell The Huffington Post that Captain America isnt Captain America anymoreafter the events of Captain America: Civil War.

I think him dropping that shield is him letting go of that identity, said Joe Russo.[Its] him admitting that certainly the identity of Captain America was in conflict with the very personal choice that he was making.

So it looks like theres an opening for a new Cap. What do you say, Tyrion?

Well, just think about it, dude.

Evidence ‘Game Of Thrones’ Will Be ‘More Extraordinary’ Next Season

Winter has come and HBO is saying, “Let it Snow,” for as long as the “Game of Thrones” showrunners need it to.

The HBO drama is supposedly taking the same amount of time it normally needs to produce a 10-episode season to make seven episodes for Season 7.

Actor Iain Glen, who plays Jorah Mormont, confirmed the news to RadioTimes:

They are taking the length of time it takes to shoot ten episodes to shoot just seven this year and six next year. There are fifteen more hours left in Thrones as we understand it, but that may change, but that’s as far as we know.

The show’s 2017 premiere was already going to air later than usual in order for production to film in bleaker weather, but there was some hope that fewer episodes would keep the delay to a minimum. Sadly, that’s apparently not the case.

But who cares?

Filming for a “Game of Thrones” season usually spans multiple countries and takes around five months to complete. By taking the same amount of time for the show’s shorter penultimate season, HBO will have the opportunity to make the final product that much more impressive. Glen even said the series is getting “more extraordinary”:

I think the scale and size of the set pieces, the world that is being created it’s just getting more and more extraordinary and they feel they need that time to shoot seven hours as opposed to ten.

Glen understandably didn’t say whether or not his character will make it to the end, and all of you looking for clues on IMDb will likely come up with bupkis. The actor, who you can also see on the Sky drama “Delicious,” previously told The Huffington Post that actors can take on multiple projects and still be on “Game of Thrones” because the show has been “amenable to actors doing other work around it.”

He did, however, note to RadioTimes that he completed a head count and realized there are very few actors remaining from the pilot.

(Yeah, dude, we’ve noticed.)

Keeping that in mind, it’s not looking too good for a lot of characters as the show winds down.

Maisie Williams, one of the other actors who’s still around, previously tweeted that “nothing will prepare you” for Season 7. Even with the supposed plot leak, that prediction is starting to look pretty accurate.
