Warning: this article contains spoilers from both the Game of Thrones books and the TV adaptation.
Back in the season premiere of Game of Thronesseason five, we saw a young Cersei Lannister (in flashback) visit Maggy the Frog – awitch – and ask to know her future.
That’s always a risky move, and it didn’t exactly go well for Cersei.
Amongst other things, Maggy told Cersei that she’d one day marry a King (who turned out to be Robert Baratheon), that she’dhave three children (who turned out to be Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen), and that these children would all die.

Bringing us back to season six – and whatwith both Joffrey and Myrcella gone – it’s looking increasingly likely that that prophecy is going to come true. (If I was Tommen, I’d be watching my back…).
Andthis is where it gets interesting. While on the TV show, the flashback ended when Maggy revealed that Cersei’s children would all die, in the book she went on to drop one more (fairly devastating) revelation:
“When your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.”
She predicted that Cersei would be killed by “the valonqar”. And for those of us who don’t speakHigh Valyrian, that means “little brother”.
Is Tyrion going to kill Cersei? He killed their father – effectively demonstrating that he’s not above murdering members of his own family – and he’s spent his life being bullied by Cersei, who blames him for their mother’s death (in childbirth).
She also accused Tyrion of killing her son Joffrey (and this was before he killed Tywin, so she had no real reason to believe he’d kill a fellow Lannister), and tried to get him executed for it. You can see why he’d be annoyed…
Some people, however, are speculating that Tyrion killing his older sister might be just that little bit too obvious for George R.R. Martin.. The man, after all, does love a twist – didn’t we all think that the Viper (Oberyn Martell) had defeated the Mountain (Ser Gregor Clegane)? Look what happened there…
Plus,for Tyrion to come into contact with Cersei, the plot ofGame of Thrones would have to take a hard left turn. Currently running the city of Meereen, Tyrion himself admitted that it might be a while before he’s back in Westeros, and it’s difficult to imagine Cersei leaving the (relative) safety of King’s Landing.
So if not Tyrion, then maybe Cersei’s other brother is the “valonqar” in question…
Yes. Although Jaime and Cersei are twins, it’s suggested on more than one occasion that Cersei came out first, making Jaime – technically – her “little brother”. But why would he kill Cersei?
We can only speculate. Maybe Tommen will die and Cersei will go mad with grief and do something stupid. Jaime killed the Mad King because his insanity threatened the whole of King’s Landing – maybe he’ll be forced to stop his amoral sister too.
